The shelter crisis in northern Syria remains critical, with over 3.4 million people internally displaced and struggling to survive in makeshift camps. Many of these camps are overcrowded, leaving 2 million people, including countless children vulnerable to extreme conditions. The harsh winters bring flooding, and summers are unbearably hot, making survival even more challenging. To make matters worse, the 2023 earthquake devastating earthquake forced even more families into displacement, adding to the already overwhelming need for shelter. While some families have been relocated to more secure homes, far too many still live in camps that are in desperate need of rehabilitation.
In response, we are actively working to provide safe, dignified shelter for these displaced families. Our efforts include constructing residential units for families affected by the earthquake and rehabilitating homes in hard-hit areas.
We are improving camp conditions through site preparation and ensuring that living spaces are more secure and livable. To meet immediate needs, we are distributing essential household items, tents, heaters, and other vital supplies.
As part of our winter response, we are providing families with multi-purpose cash vouchers, winter clothing, and blankets to help them survive the harsh cold. We are also supplying fuel and heating materials, making sure that homes and tents stay warm through the freezing temperatures. Through these initiatives, we’re not just offering shelter, but restoring hope and dignity to families who have endured unimaginable hardship.
